Winfile.exe

1997

Wood, paint

Winfile.exe is a three-dimensional interpretation of the “Winfile” icon from windows 3.x menu, which was removed from the desktop of windows 95. It is a piece of office furniture, which in its design combines an interior two thousand square centimetres physical storage space for digital storage vessels (floppy discs, CDs, etc.) with the exterior reassuring allusion to the enormous memorial capacity of the hard drive of a PC. The transformation from an original bitmap icon with the size of 302 kb into the present 25x30x35 cm wooden shape, serves as a reversed illustration of the physical object, which ought to have been the model for the bitmap icon.
